About

Ashley is an extremely adaptive arts mentor and instructor, recognizing the importance of the sense of safety in any arts experience. Making art can be intense, cathartic, tranquil, frightening, transcendent, chaotic, enlightening, healing, exuberant, or any number of reactions. Ashley has the experience and wisdom to create and respond to all kinds of artistic states, guiding and nurturing students down a path of personal creativity and growth.

Ashley has taught drawing and painting on both east and west coast. First in Florida and Philadelphia, and now in Los Angeles.

While in Philadelphia she taught acrylic and oil painting in her studio and provided art groups to young children in homeless shelters around the city. Upon arrival in LA in 2011, Ashley began teaching two art classes at The Education Corps’s Saito High School, part of Los Angeles Conservation Corps, a charter school for at-risk young adults in South LA. Within a year she built a comprehensive visual, performance and film arts program, eventually growing to two of Saito’s sister schools in Pico Union and Inglewood. Over five years she taught hundreds of young adults from tough backgrounds how to paint, draw, sculpt, create and write films, and perform theatrical events. Her strength is in helping others find their inner voice, empowering them to create meaningful and personal works of art. In her spare time Ashley has led art groups at numerous mental health agencies, psychiatric and behavioral centers, and transitional housing facilities serving formerly homeless and formerly incarcerated adults and young adults for a non-profit mental health arts organization called Painted Brain.

Ashley is now offering individual and group lessons in her private studio for painting and drawing in all mediums including acrylic, watercolor, and oil. Drawing is also available and often incorporated in her painting lessons, as drawing is the foundation of all painting.
