“It seems to me that the modern painter cannot express his age (the airplane, the atom bomb, the radio) in the older forms of the renaissance or any past culture. Each age finds its own technique.”
The Artist matters CURATORIAL TEXT BY YEH.JIN
How does the artist matter? How do they offer catharsis and resolution in today's culture? The Artist Matters invites viewers to seek wonder and philosophical contemplation on human connection in its rawest form through art and poetry.
This intimate group exhibition features four contemporary artists who bring to light not only solutions to aesthetics but more importantly, unveil the hidden matters of the human heart and spirit. Just as a scientist will use the scientific method to investigate the nature of things, the participating artists have been chosen for their unconventional use of their technique, to vulnerably and boldly express the importance of human connection and consciousness.
Exhibition will run for a one-time-only show August 3rd - 5th, featuring artists Ashley Payne, Adam Enrique Rodriguez and Benjamin Seng with a video installation by Anna Zhang.
Mother, poet, and scholar Kenya Mitchell (MA in Language and Literacy from Harvard School of Education and Ph. D. in Writing, Rhetoric and Composition from UC Davis School of Education) is currently creating a new autobiography describing her personal experience of teaching undergraduates in Saudi Arabia. She will be doing a special reading of a poem she composed inspired by this journey on August 5th during the closing reception at Nous Tous Gallery along with guest spoken word artists Jacob Sapar and Divinity Noria.
